Wave Pools: The New Trend | Pacific Surf School

The exciting thing about surfing is that it’s constantly changing. Back in the day, it was looked at as a sport for selected few. However, it has become very common now.

There are more than 35 million surfers out there and while some do it as a hobby or to get fit and enjoy the benefits of surfing, some do it as a sport and to take part in competitions. It will even be a part of the 2020 Olympics Games.

A major reason why surfing has become so popular is due to the existence of artificial wave pools. There are wave pools opening around the world due to increased demand. It’s a good business opportunity for entrepreneurs and a good way for surfers to learn and enjoy.

We know that surfing is more than just a sport. It can help mend relationships, connect with people in the same fraternity, improve physical fitness and lose weight, and even get over depression.

Before we talk about how they’re a new trend, it’s important to understand what they are and how they work. A wave pool is basically a swimming pool in which there are artificially generated big or small waves just like the ocean.

These pools were earlier used to give the feel of an ocean but they are now being used to surf. They work using pressurized air that created ripple-like waves. For larger pools, a large quantity of water is allowed into one end of the swimming pool that results in the creation of large waves.

Wave pools have become so popular because they are easier to access, you do not have to travel miles to reach your destination; the size and type of waves can be controlled; and they’re safer than the ocean.

Wave pools have turned out to be a major tourist attraction and can be a good option for beginner surfers. One of the most popular is the Kelly Slater pool, situated in Lemoore, California. It’s home to the world’s longest man-made open-barrel wave.

This pool is quite expensive – going as high as $250 per wave. However, fortunately some more affordable options are also available such as The BSR Surf Resort where each wave costs just $7.50. Moreover, new wave pools are opening all around the country.
