FROM OUR EXPERIENCE a surf trip can be quite demanding on your body if you are not a surfer and you will be working some muscles that you may never have used before.
Your success depends a lot on your physical ability and fitness, strength and flexibility. We always recommend a preparation program at least 4 weeks in advance to your Brazil surf trip ,however if you can prepare at least 8 weeks in advance it will be very beneficial to your surfing performance.
It is strongly recommended that you do Yoga and swim as this is an excellent compliment for your surf. The lower back muscles, biceps and triceps and rowing exercises need to be worked for your paddling power. Squats and abdominal exercises are needed for your leg and torso strength so you can turn and maneuver the board.
- The weight work outs should be done at least 3 times a week
- Yoga twice a week or once a week in your first month and twice a week in your second month
- Stamina and aerobic work outs such as swimming, running or stair master three times a week. This will build up your physical endurance as paddling into a wave requires a lot of sudden explosive power.
- Stretching before and after each work out is very important, see some of our stretching routines below for you to do once a day.
Thanks guys I had an amazing experience that I won't forget, your camp was fun, the staff and monitors were so friendly and caring. I learnt everything I needed to know about surfing and the ocean, not to mention the facilities! I'll see you guys next year.
